The Nationals select RHP Cade Cavalli in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft

Updated: Aug 4

With the 22nd pick in the 2020 MLB draft, the Washington Nationals have selected, Cade Cavalli, RHP, Oklahoma. Per Keith Law of the athletic, “Cavalli was a two-way player his first two years in Norman but has focused almost exclusively on pitching this spring, with a plus fastball and slider that’s among the best in the draft." He was ranked as the 22nd best prospect in the draft.

Standing at 6 feet 4 inches, 220 pounds, his fastball ranges from 92-96 MPH, and tops out at 98 MPH, his curveball is at low 80’s, and his slider is at high 80’s. In 23IP, he had 23 strikeouts, and 5 walks before the shutdown. Some concerns about him are about his health history. He had a back injury in high school and had a stress fracture in his arm last spring. Some other concerns are about his track record, and command, he posted a 4.7BB/9 in his career. I really like this pick and believe that he has a ton of potential.
