Player Profile: Sam Staab
Sam Staab was born in San Diego, California on March 28th, 1997. A Clemson product, Staab started all 80 games of her career as a Tiger, logging 7,360 minutes in her four year career. Following great success at Clemson, Staab was selected by the Spirit as the fourth overall pick in the 2019 NWSL draft making her the highest pick in Clemson history.
In her first season with the Spirit, she started all 24 matches and did not miss a minute of game-time, leading the team in minutes played. Though just twenty three, Staab is composed and collected on the ball and evidently, a reliable player.
Staab also features in the Westfield W-League, an NWSL equivalent in Australia. Many NWSL players head to Australia to compete in the W-League in the NWSL off-season. Staab plays for the Western Sydney Wanderers as does former Spirit player Amy Harrison. Coming off of a strong Challenge Cup performance including a goal and full 90’s in the Spirit’s five matches, Staab will play an integral role in the NWSL fall series beginning on Saturday.
Staab and her Spirit teammates will return to action against Sky Blue FC in the debut game of the 2020 NWSL Fall Series on September 5, 2020, at 1pm EST. The match will air on CBS.
