Fedex formally asks the Redskins to change their name

Updated: Aug 4, 2020

FedEx has asked the Redskins to change their name. In a statement, they said, “We have communicated to the team in Washington our request that they change the team name”. FedEx is one of the Redskins biggest sponsors. They own the naming rights to the Redskins home stadium. This is significant because not only is FedEx one of the Redskins biggest sponsors, the CEO, Frederick Smith is a minority owner of the Redskins. FedEx is the first company to formally ask them to change their name, but Nike and other sponsors could soon follow in their footsteps. As I said in a previous article, “If Dan Snyder were to lose these companies as sponsors, he could lose a fortune. As many are wondering, will the threat of losing the Redskins biggest sponsors, force Dan Snyder to change the name?”
